چکیده

For diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, multiple imaging techniques can be used to gain more information on a patient’s anatomy. In maxillofacial and neurosurgery, three-dimensional rotational angiography (3DRA) images can provide a detailed view on blood vessels, whereas computed tomography angiography (CTA) images are common for multiplanar interpretation of bone, soft tissue, and blood vessels. Thus, the registration of 3DRA to CTA allows for a better understanding of the structure and location of blood vessels within a context of bone and tissue, which is essential to surgical interventions. Among other reasons, the lack of mutual information between 3DRA and CTA images makes their registration challenging. In this work, we describe an approach that is based on a segmentation of common structures of the datasets, which enhances the mutual information and hence, the registration result. An evaluation and a comparison to the registration accuracy of unsegmented datasets is presented.

Partially Rigid Bone Registration in CT Angiography

Maximum intensity projection (MIP) studies of CT angiography (CTA) images are a widely used tool for artery and vein visualization especially in the brain. Due to their high CT intensity bone structures lead to visualization artifacts in MIP studies, therefore they have to be removed to get an undistorted view of the vessel structures. Often this removal is possible by a rigid registration step...

Automatic Prostate Cancer Segmentation Using Kinetic Analysis in Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced MRI

Background: Dynamic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) provides functional information on the microcirculation in tissues by analyzing the enhancement kinetics which can be used as biomarkers for prostate lesions detection and characterization. Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate spatiotemporal patterns of tumors by extracting semi-quantitative as well as w...

Automatic Segmentation of Vertebral Arteries in Head and Neck CT Angiography Images

Computed tomography (CT) angiography is a useful imaging technique for the evaluation of the intraand extra-cranial vasculature. With the introduction of multi-detector row CT scanners, head and neck CT angiography images make it easy to detect cerebral aneurysms, arterial stenosis, and other vascular anomalies. To get an arterial anatomy in three-dimensional views, CT angiography images are of...

Integrated Four Dimensional Registration and Segmentation Algorithm for Dynamic Contrast Enhanced Renal MR Images

In this paper a novel approach for the registration and segmentation of dynamic contrast enhanced renal MR images is presented. This integrated method is motivated by the observation of the reciprocity between registration and segmentation in 4D time-series images. Fully automated Fourier-based registration with sub-voxel accuracy and semi-automated time-series segmentation were intertwined to ...

Comparative Evaluation of Two Registration-based Segmentation Algorithms: Application to Whole Heart Segmentation in CT

Statistical shape models learn valid variability from example shapes, making large training sets favorable. Methods for automatic training set generation use transforms obtained by registration to propagate atlas landmarks to new samples. Algorithms based on B-spline transforms and mutual information (MI) were successfully employed for the cardiac anatomy in CT and MRI. For single-modality data...
